Singapore Open Invitation Weighlifting Championship 2007

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

The Singapore Open 2007 was held on the 18 August 2007 at *scape Youth Park @ Orchard. We had athletes from Thailand and Malaysia competing together with our Singapore athletes for the medals. The event was graced by Guest-of-Honor, Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

Despite the initial heavy downpour, the event started with the Women Open Category. The Thailand ladies are very strong in this category. They bagged all three medals.

In the Men Under 77Kg Category, Mr Sulak from Thailand took the
Gold medal in this category and Mr Ben Ho and Mr Brian Law from Singapore bagged the Silver and Bronze respectively. The Men Open Category saw competition between the three countries. Malaysia emerged as the Champion with Thailand as the 1st Runner Up and Singapore as the 2nd Runner Up.

In addition to weightlifting, we also showcased Muay Thai and Capoeria. The demonstration was done by Mixed Martial Arts Academy.

Calling All Lifters

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

SWF is constantly on the look out for new weighlifting talents to develop. You can be someone totally new to sports in general or someone with years of fitness experience.

While we essentially are here to develop a pool of athletes to represent Singapore in competitions (such as the Olympics, YOG, World Championships, SEA Games, etc.), we also strongly believe that the activity of weighlifting, particularly of Olympic Weighlifting techniques, can play a fundamental role in general fitness conditioning and sports specific conditioning.

Weightlifting is not limited by gender, size or age and can be enjoyed by all. Be it because you are keen to explore the sport of weightlifting out of interest or with the goal of representing Singapore as a weightlifter, do drop us an email at swf@swf.org.sg to find out more on how you can get started.
