Singapore’s Tan Lay Sang at World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand

Singapore’s Tan Lay Sang will be competing at the World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand, on the 25th April in the W50-54 69kg category. The scheduled time 2.30pm local time (GMT +12).

All sessions are being live streamed here. The site also includes a large number of high resolution photos from each session.

Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2013

CWC2013 was recently held in Penang, Malaysia ( and Singapore had 2 competitors at this year’s edition. Lewis Chua, in the Senior +105 kg category, achieved a total of 307kg for a 5th placing (out of 6 competitors) while Joel Law, in the Junior & Senior 69 kg. Joel achieved a total of 207kg for a 10th placing (out of 16 competitors).

Together with Singapore’s representation in the recent World Weightlifting Championships (by Lewis Chua and Scott Wong), our athletes continue to do their best and the country proud. We are still a small and niche sport but no one can fault our team for doing their best and we look forward to the continued support of enthusiasts and the general public as we collective work together towards future targets in 2014 and 2015 – Commonwealth Games, SEA Games and other World and Continental Championships.

Singapore Weightlifting Open 2013 Results

The Singapore Weightlifting Open 2013, organised on 6th July 2013 saw more than 15 athletes representing Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong competing across 4 weight categories.

For our National athletes, it was an opportunity for them to benchmark themselves against international competition while working towards qualification for the 2014 SEA Games.

We’re going to the London Olympics!

Helena Wong has been awarded a place under the IOC unused quota provision to compete in the Women’s 53kg category a the London Olympics.

This is a milestone for local sports as the last time Singapore was represented in the sport at this level, it was in 1976. Helena is also the first female Singaporean weightlifter to compete at the Olympics.

Methylhexaneamine is classed as an S6. Stimulant on the Prohibited List. The IWF is advising all athletes to carefully consider their use of supplements and products containing methylhexaneamine. It is increasingly being found in nutritional supplements, typically those that are designed to increase energy or aid weight loss.

Any product that contains any of the following ingredients on the label will be reported as an Adverse Analytical Finding for Methylhexaneamine:

Geranuim -oil, -extract, -flower, -stems, -leaves, Methylhexaneamine; Methylhexanamine; DMAA (dimethylamylamine); Geranamine; Forthane; Forthan; Floradrene; 2-hexanamine, 4-methyl-; 2-hexanamine, 4-methyl- (9CI); 4-methyl-2-hexanamine; 1,3-dimethylamylamine; 4-Methylhexan-2-amine; 1,3-dimethylpentylamine; 2-amino-4-methylhexane; Pentylamine, 1, 3-dimethyl-.


As an example, the following list of products contains the banned substances (not necessarily listed on the label):

2. OxyELITE Pro – USPlabs (1,3 Dimethylamylamine(Geranium [Stem], caffeine)

6. Liquid Clenbutrx Hardcore – VPX (Apple Geranium (Pelargonium Odorantissomum) (Leaves) [Std. To 1,3-Dimethylpentylamine],caffeine)

7. Heat Accelerated – Magnum Nutraceuticals (Geranium Oil Extract, Citrus Aurantium, caffeine)

8. CryoShock – Neogenix (1,3 Dimethylamylamine, caffeine)

This is not an exclusive list. There are several other food supplements that contain the above stimulant that is prohibited in and out of competition.
